The Science of NAD+: Why This Molecule Defines How You Age

Inside every cell, a single molecule decides whether your body repairs or retreats. It's called NAD+, and by the time you turn 50, you have roughly half of what you were born with.

There is a quiet molecule working inside you right now. It does not ask for attention. It does not appear on supplement labels in bold type. Yet without it, your cells cannot produce energy, repair their DNA, or communicate with one another.

Its name is Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide — NAD+ for short.

A currency, not a vitamin

NAD+ is best understood as a kind of cellular currency. Every time your mitochondria turn food into energy, NAD+ is spent. Every time a damaged strand of DNA is repaired, NAD+ is spent. Every time the longevity-linked sirtuin proteins switch on, NAD+ is spent.

The problem is simple arithmetic. By age 40, NAD+ levels fall to roughly 50% of youthful baseline. By 60, often less than 30%. Cells continue to spend — but the reserves thin.

What declining NAD+ looks like

Researchers now associate low NAD+ with several of the recognised hallmarks of aging: mitochondrial dysfunction, genomic instability, cellular senescence, and impaired intercellular communication. In plain language: slower recovery, lower energy, foggier thinking, and skin that no longer bounces back.

The ALTUS approach

We do not believe in flooding the body. We believe in restoring rhythm. Our formulations use bioavailable NAD+ precursors paired with cofactors that the cell actually recognises — delivered in doses calibrated for daily, long-term use rather than short bursts.

Longevity is not a sprint of supplementation. It is a quiet, consistent return to what the body already knows how to do.
